Restore your smile with crowns from Dr. Valerie Barba!
Crowns are a cosmetic and functional restoration used to strengthen a tooth or improve its shape. In our office, crowns are a last-resort treatment when teeth are very weak, damaged, or decayed beyond the scope of more conservative treatment, like a filling or onlay. Crowns may also be necessary when teeth are so damaged that the bite has collapsed and the jaw is in dysfunction.
With more than 29 years of experience and thousands of successful crowns placed, Dr. Barba is the Manasquan, NJ dentist you can trust with your smile.
Getting a Crown
The process of getting a crown usually takes two visits to our Manasquan, NJ dental practice. During your first appointment, Dr. Barba or a member of our team will take an impression of your teeth. This impression is then sent to our dental lab, where a dental laboratory technician will sculpt your crown just for you so that your bite and jaw movements function normally once the crown is placed.
During your second appointment, your crown will be “cemented” onto the existing tooth and fully cover the portion of your tooth above the gum line. In effect, the crown becomes your tooth's new outer surface.
While Dr. Barba emphasizes preventive and minimally invasive dentistry whenever possible, there are times when a crown is the best option. A visual examination and X-rays are necessary to determine the extent to which a tooth or teeth need the maximum support a crown provides.
